So much bait

Took some screen grabs from the sounder, one from Rangi Channel last week; and the second from pretty much under the harbour bridge today.

What this translates to:

The pink circles show anchovies, lots and lots of them. The green circles are snapper, which we could see clearly but which weret not interested in our offerings. Guys are saying that like last year, the snaps are by-passing the channel and heading straight into the harbour.

Today we spent a couple of hours on the harbour, in fact it was SWMBO's first trip in the boat.

This was pretty much under the harbour bridge, bait and snapper present. I biffed over a jig but nothing in the short time I fished, it was after all, a sight seeing trip.

Enjoying the sounder and figuring out what I'm seeing. There's just so much bait in the harbour and surrounds, I'm certain that plagues of snapper will be there at times too, putting on post-spawn condition.
